Dandruff is a common condition that causes the skin on the scalp to flake. It isn't contagious or serious, but it can be embarrassing and difficult to treat. Mild dandruff can be treated with a gentle daily shampoo. If that doesn't work, a medicated shampoo may help. However, many people prefer natural dandruff home remedies to avoid harsh chemicals.
1. Tea Tree Oil
Tea tree oil has powerful anti-microbial and anti-inflammatory properties, making it an excellent remedy for dandruff. It fights the specific strain of fungus that causes both seborrheic dermatitis and dandruff.
Add a few drops of tea tree oil to your regular shampoo every time you wash your hair, or mix it with coconut oil and massage it into your scalp a few hours before washing.
2. Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV)
The acidity of apple cider vinegar changes the pH of your scalp, making it harder for the dandruff-causing fungus to grow. ACV also acts as a gentle exfoliant, removing dead skin cells.
Mix equal parts of ACV and water in a spray bottle. Spray it onto your scalp, wrap your head in a towel, and let it sit for 15 minutes to an hour before washing your hair as usual.
3. Neem Leaves
Neem is a traditional Indian remedy known for its antibacterial and antifungal properties. Boiling neem leaves in water and using the strained, cooled water as a final rinse after shampooing can effectively eliminate dandruff and relieve scalp itchiness.
